![]() ![]() I let them sit like that overnight before doing a final brushing this morning. So, I used a horsehair brush to lightly brush away the superficial grime and dust, then I did a light washing with saddle soap (really hope this wasn’t a mistake on gator skin), wiped off the soap, brushed more, then applied two layers of Bick 4 moisturizer. However, I am an avid dress shoe collector and know how to clean, condition, and polish those very well. As I mentioned before, I’m not really experienced with cowboy boots, especially exotic skins. Now, considering the age, and the fact they were covered in dust and grime (darker pair was covered in mud), I figured these were overdue for a cleaning and conditioning. Being from 1990, these boots don’t show much wear, in fact the darker pair couldn’t have been worn more than 5 times, in my opinion. The stamps on the inside of each right boot has a date marked 1990 from one of the local Tony Lama stores. Anyways, at $20 a pair for quality boots I couldn’t resist! ![]() I think both are gator though, but if I’m wrong please correct me! Apparently, they had been up on the rack for a couple of days and no one was showing any interest in them, which is quite surprising. ![]() My Spanish ain’t great, but from what I could pick out she said the lighter pair are gator and not sure what she said the darker pair were, but she said I shouldn’t cross the border (to Juarez) with the darker pair because they would be confiscated for some reason. While trying them on at the store, an elderly woman who works there walked up to me and spoke with me in Spanish. This is the first time that I found some in my size, and I feel incredibly lucky that they are Tony Lama and in great shape! I visit thrift stores almost every weekend and see boots at almost every store. I’m not much a boot wearer, in fact I only own one other pair of cowboy boots, but I have been wanting another pair ever since moving to El Paso. ![]()
